The grid sequencer is a simple sequencer for creating blocks patterns using the instruments created in the synthesizer. It is comprised of the play controls on the top left, the editing controls on the left and bottom right, the note grid in the middle, and the block sequence or instrument list on the right. The play controls on the top left are the same as in the synthesizer screen.
Along the top is the current block and line position being played and the number of voices (notes) being played. Beside this are the current parameter value, the previous parameter value, and the parameter undo button, and the song name (these are also shown, and primarily used, in the synthesizer screen). The number of voices also shows an M if the instrument is muted or an S if the instrument is soloed.
Below the grid is the song tempo, the duration of the current block at the current song tempo, the duration of a single line at the current song tempo, the song volume, the Volume edit mode, and the left and right volume meters.
Note Grid
The note grid is organized with time progressing vertically from top to bottom in 16 steps or lines (0 to 15), marked on the left. The current line being played is indicated by the highlighted cursor. The notes are arranged horizontally with lower notes on the left and higher notes on the right. Octaves are indicated by outlined grid positions. The octave size and note range are selected in the instrument summary for each instrument. Each block pattern contains a sequence of note on and note off events. Note events are indicated by a filled note position (play a note) or a horizontal line (stop any note previously played at that tone). When edit mode is enabled, notes are added by tapping a note position and removed by tapping the same position again. The note is also played and can be heard in realtime, regardless of the edit mode.
Each instrument has a different color and the notes of the current instrument are shown more brightly than the notes of other instruments, which are still visible for reference.
Editing panels
On the left side of the note grid is the editing panel.
• Edit – enable grid editing
• Note on/off – switch between adding and removing note on and note off events
• Block number – a button that displays the block sequence list and has the current block number
• Cut block – move the current block to the edit buffer
• Copy block – copy the current block to the edit buffer
• Paste block – paste the block in the edit buffer into the current block
• Current block in buffer – the reference number of the block currently in the edit buffer and available to paste
• Instrument number – a button that displays the instrument list and has the current instrument number
• Cut track – move the current block to the edit buffer
• Copy track – copy the current block to the edit buffer
• Paste track – paste the block in the edit buffer into the current block
• Current track in buffer – the reference number of the track currently in the edit buffer and available to paste – a track pattern for an instrument can be pasted into any another track
• Directional pad – a directional pad for shifting the notes in the note grid one position at a time in the desired direction (notes wrap around to the opposite side at the edges)
When the block number button is tapped, the block sequence list is shown on the right side of the note grid. When the instrument number is tapped, the instrument list is shown on the right side of the note grid. The block sequence list and instrument list are shown in the same location and cannot be viewed at the same time.
On the right side, below the block sequence list, is an additional editing panel.
• Previous instrument – go to the previous instrument track
• Next instrument – go to the next instrument track
• Move block up – move current block one position upwards in the list so it is above the previous block
• Move block down – move current block one position downwards in the list so it is below the next block
• Insert block before – insert a new block before the current block
• Append block after – append a new block after the current block
• Delete current block
